DR. ERICA ELISABETH BURDEN
When there are depression, anxiety, or other challenges, a therapist must fully understand what keeps these feelings and emotions going,
and what to do to help with managing difficulties and achieving better adjustment and a better life.
However, there are usually no “quick fixes” and living a more satisfying and fuller life requires work for both the client and the therapist.
I am willing to work for you and with you and expect that you will also do your part.
I select strategies and techniques from a variety of therapy approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, Gestalt,
and other client-centered approaches, depending on the client’s goals and needs. To develop a collaborative therapeutic partnership,
the treatment plan and techniques are always discussed and explored with the client.
My work gives me great pleasure and I greet every person with open-mindedness and warm regard.
I am a good listener and often hear what is not explicitly said.
What speaks best for me, though, is that other therapists and professionals refer to me because I like “psychological detective work,” e.g.,
ferret out complexities that may have prevented appropriate treatments in the past.
My Ph.D. degree was earned at The University of Texas at Austin, and I received my master’s degree in Psychology from Loyola University in Baltimore.
I have been practicing psychology for many years in Houston and Philadelphia.
